The Get Up Kids in Columbus

(download)

These pics were from the show we drove out to on Sunday. I'm excited that The Get Up Kids are back together...wonder if they're planning a new album. I'm pretty sure I heard two new songs!

Awesome (Free) Third Eye Blind Show

Img_0069

Great show in downtown Indy tonight (even though my pics weren't that great). Although there were times when it was raining pretty hard, it was very cool to see what felt like a secret concert (of one of my favorite bands).

New Third Eye Blind Album - Ursa Major

Very excited about this! Third Eye Blind is definitely one of my favorite bands and one that seems to have been misunderstood a bit over the years.

After Michael Jackson, Fame May Never Be the Same - NYTimes.com

Fame on the level that Mr. Jackson achieved is all but impossible for pop culture heroes today, and quite likely it will never be possible again.

This article makes some good points about how the playing field in music has changed over the years. Recent and future generations may not have iconic symbols that unite them with similarly-aged people, simply because there are so many more artists now than there used to be.

This is both a curse and a blessing I think. It's sad that music may not have the generational power that it has had in the past...but it's gonna make life a lot harder on posers.

Corporate record labels need a glorious death so that people can feel good about buying music again. If most music was created by smaller labels (with souls) and people paid for their eclectic tastes, the whole market might even out. Although artists might not make hundreds of millions of dollars anymore, more will be able to flourish.
